An Interview with Honeysuckle Gelato

My love affair with gelato began years ago. Years. Its creamy, silky, smooth texture with offerings like pistachio or watermelon I find completely irresistible. Gelato, which many consider the Italian cousin to traditional ice cream, has an elasticity and fluidity you won’t find in your local parlor. Enter, Honeysuckle Gelato, an Atlanta-based company that started with a food truck but now you can find at Ponce City Market and grocers across the region! Read more about their journey below!

1. If you could describe Honeysuckle Gelato's food philosophy in one sentence it would be....

Our goal is to combine the rich and smooth texture of gelato with the decadent flavors and desserts of the South while using the finest and freshest ingredients.

2. What is most important to your product (i.e. quality, whole foods)?

Providing a high quality product is by far our main goal here at Honeysuckle Gelato. We get fresh local dairy delivered twice a week by our...

The run of the mill spring vegetable recipe really gets kicked up a notch when I get my hands on some black garlic! Used regularly in Asian cuisine, black garlic has been rising in popularity among gastronomic circles for the past several years. You won’t find black garlic in regular grocery stores but the payoff is worth the scavenger hunt if you can find it! For those in the Atlanta area, you can find it at your local Whole Foods market.

What is it?

To create black garlic, regular garlic bulbs are aged under strict environmental conditions- specifically controlled heat and humidity- for several weeks. The cloves turn inky black and develop a fig-like sticky texture. The taste? Amazingly different! Black garlic contains subtleties of balsamic vinegar, caramel and molasses, combined with an earthy flavor. And, it lacks the typical garlic punch (for those of you that don’t enjoy that punch and might want to gloss over this blog post).

How to use it?

Use black garlic as you would roasted...

The changing of seasons signifies a fresh start and a change to set your intention. In the spirit of fall, let’s discuss creating space for new routines, rituals, and habits. As an integrative RDN, I like to focus on self care and establishing habits that are essential for overall well-being. Morning routines are no exception! The days we wake up feeling frazzled and rushed can set the rest of our day up for disaster. During goal setting sessions with my clients, we discuss their morning practice (or lack thereof). The discussion goes beyond waking up, making coffee/tea and eating breakfast. For my clients with kids, the conversation goes wayyyyyy deeper. Because- when you have little ones in the house- morning routines take on a whole new meaning. {can I get an amen?!}

So, what exactly is a morning practice? It can be as simple or as involved as you want it to be. The morning practice allows you to warm up the mind and body. The idea is to create a buffer between waking and starting yo...

An Interview with Elizabeth McBath | Co-Founder of  Banner Butter

I discovered Banner Butter last year - and it literally changed the way I think about, cook with and enjoy butter. Now, I have to admit, I don’t routinely eat butter, BUT, if you are going to indulge you should indulge in the creamy goodness of real, cultured butter. And I recommend your loyalty lie in Banner Butter. What makes Banner Butter so amazing? Well- they make butter the “old fashioned” way, carefully curating it in small batches. Additionally, they use cream from locally sourced, hormone free,  grass-fed cows.  Can’t get much more natural than that!

My favorite way to enjoy Banner Butter is by drizzling a bit of honey on their lightly salted butter and smearing it on warm bread.  The mixture of salty and sweet on a warm baguette or roll is just heavenly.

Read below to see Banner Butter’s journey (hint: their research took them across the pond!) and see just what it took to perfect their craft!
