The changing of seasons signifies a fresh start and a change to set your intention. In the spirit of spring, let’s discuss creating space for new routines, rituals, and habits. As an integrative RDN, I like to focus on self care and establishing habits that are essential for overall well-being. Morning routines are no exception! The days we wake up feeling frazzled and rushed can set the rest of our day up for disaster. During goal setting sessions with my clients, we discuss their morning practice (or lack thereof). The discussion goes beyond waking up, making coffee/tea and eating breakfast. For my clients with kids, the conversation goes wayyyyyy deeper. Because- when you have little ones in the house- morning routines take on a whole new meaning.

So, what exactly is a morning practice? It can be as simple or as involved as you want it to be. The morning practice allows you to warm up the mind and body. The idea is to create a buffer between waking and starting your day. Creating sp...

We  all have those experiences where we feel like we have slipped up on healthful habits. I too, have those times where I just want to reboot and reset from the inside out. I sometimes like to reset during the changing of the seasons, when everything in nature is going through its own transition. Or maybe we reset after a holiday and/or vacation. Whatever the reason - be kind and show yourself some compassion.

Why reset? The idea of a reset is a complete body reboot from processed foods and stress. It focuses on supporting your body’s natural detoxification system (i.e. digestion, elimination, breathing, and mindset). It also encourages sleep, light exercise and stress management. A reset does not have to be radical or challenging - it’s all about nourishing your body with foods that are easy to digest and help beat the bloat naturally.  Below are some digestion tips that will help you feel your best and kick start your healthful habits.

For those of you starting college or returning to dorm life, you know eating “healthy” (or at a normal hour) can be a challenge. Dormitories can be tight living space and don’t usually have space to cook or store a lot of food. So how do you survive dorm life and eat whole foods? Follow my tips below and you will not only survive but you will thrive and establish habits that can stay with you for life!

Wellness And Wholeness

Eating healthy and staying active are essential for your overall well-being. As an integrative registered dietitian nutritionist, I consider the whole being - the body and the mind. Those components make up self care and help keep you grounded (even during finals).

Preparation

Keep snacks, meals and water with you at all times. This will prevent you from reaching out for fast food at 2 am when  you are pulling an all-nighter.  If you don’t like water, flavor your water with cucumber and berries. Delicious!

Grocery Shopping

So, this is part of being prepared. Find a...
